On May 14, 2019, a group of independent mediators announced a new program to help survivors of clergy sexual abuse in Southern Californian dioceses receive monetary compensation.
If you or a loved one is a survivor of clergy sexual abuse, please contact the Riverside Catholic priest abuse attorneys of DiMarco | Araujo | Montevideo to discuss your case. You may be eligible for significant compensation under this program.
What is the Independent Compensation Program?
The Independent Compensation Program for Victim-Survivors of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Priests was formed in conjunction with the Catholic church to help distribute compensation to victims who were abused as a minor in one of the following dioceses:
This program was initiated as a faster, more productive alternative to filing claims against the court.
Who is Eligible to Get Compensation?
Those who are survivors of clergy abuse by the previously mentioned dioceses are eligible to file a claim. Additionally, because this program does not function within the court system, you may file a claim even if:
The civil statute of limitations has passed for your case.
You have not already reported your case to the court.
You are an undocumented immigrant with no proof of citizenship.
Submitting a claim is not required to gain compensation.
Is a Lawyer Necessary to File a Claim in Riverside?
Although a legal professional is not required, it is highly recommended to consult a clergy abuse attorney in Riverside before deciding to file a claim. The program may seem straightforward, but a priest sexual abuse lawyer may be able to assist you with some of the specifics.
The program provides compensation only for survivors of abuse from the previously mentioned dioceses.
There is a burden of proof on the survivor in order to receive compensation. In cases where a longer period of time has passed, this may be considerably more difficult.
Because compensation is determined by the mediators, you may not receive an amount of compensation that is satisfactory or appropriate for your needs.
You waive to right to pursue any responsible parties for further compensation if you file a claim and accept the amount.
At DiMarco | Araujo | Montevideo, we can assist you in determining the right course of action for your specific needs. If you decide to file a claim with the independent program, we can help gather the evidence and any other paperwork necessary to file a thorough, comprehensive claim.
